Janne Metsämäki appointed as Conciliator and Jukka Ahtela as Deputy National Conciliator

Ahtela and Metsämäki will work as part-time conciliators of labour disputes. They will perform individual conciliation duties assigned by the National Conciliator.

In its plenary session on 12 October 2017, the Government appointed Master of Laws Janne Metsämäki as Conciliator as of 15 October 2017. Metsämäki was appointed for a term of three years, i.e. until 14 October 2020. Furthermore, the Government appointed Conciliator, Master of Laws Jukka Ahtela as Deputy National Conciliator as of 15 October 2017. His appointment will last until the end of his current term of office, i.e. until 31 March 2018.

Under the Act on Mediation in Labour Disputes, a sufficient number of part-time conciliators are appointed in addition to the National Conciliator. The Government appoints the conciliators upon proposal of the National Conciliator. National Conciliator Minna Helle consulted the central labour market organisations before making the proposal.

In addition to Ahtela and Metsämäki, also Juha Laaksonen (Turku area) works currently as part-time conciliators of labour disputes. The term of office of the Conciliator of Åland ended on 30 September 2017, and the successor will be appointed in the near future.
